Greetings all! My name is Jay Stephens and although my goal is to summit Mount Kilimanjaro this January, I am on a mission far bigger than standing on the top of a mountain. My mission is twofold: to raise awareness for the millions of children who are suffering from malnutrition around the world, and to deliver aid in the form of nutrition packs to as many of these children as I can. This is why I have created KILIMANJAYO: A Climb For Malnutrition. My goal is to share my passion about this issue with as many people as possible in hopes that together we can make a difference. Let me show you where I’m coming from…
* * *
Not long ago I was lost in my own world. I was confused, frustrated, and at a loss for where I was headed in life. Everything seemed so complicated and the decisions and stress were piling up- typical young adult stuff. I was expressing my concerns about the world and my own life to a good friend over dinner one night. I will never forget his words, for it was some of the most sage advice I have ever received: “Jay,” he began after I had finished ranting and raving about this and that. “There are only 2 things of true importance in person’s life: First, live a life full of happiness. Surround yourself with things and people that make you happy, and share your happiness with the world. Second, leave this world a better place then you found it. Everyone can change the world- even the smallest person or the minutest gesture can make a difference. Never forget that. Do what you can and be happy knowing you made a difference. That’s it. The rest will fall into place.” It was so simple but so true. His words shook me out of my daze, and I was overcome with a new sense of clarity. Later that night it came to me. The idea festered in my head and grew and grew until it exploded to life. Kilimanjayo was born.
I created this project to make a difference in the world in the best way I know how: through my own passions and happiness, through my love of physical challenge, and mountain climbing, and the great outdoors. I am climbing for these children, and for their future. You see, like many of you I am healthy and nourished, but these children are not- they are far from it. There are kids out there who really are in trouble. Millions of kids around the globe are suffering from severe malnutrition. For some, it is a matter of life and death. But we can help! Nutrition packs are a proven treatment for malnourishment. The more of these packs we can get to children the more malnutrition we can alleviate. For every dollar donated toward my climb, one nutrition pack will be delivered to a kid who needs it, and the other portion will go to funding my climb.
I climb because I love the feeling. I love the air and the sun and the sweat as it cools on my back. I climb because of my strong admiration of nature. I climb because it is my passion. I want to give these children a chance to go out and find their passions. I want to help these children to grow big and strong and have the opportunity to both live a life happiness and find their own way to make this world a better place. Please join me on this mission and my climb for malnutrition. A little goes a long way for these children. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
Peace and Love,
