Today, January 24th, is national Peanut Butter Day! In the spirit of this momentous day, we’d like to give thanks to this fantastic food and our outstanding corporate partner, HP, which has triggered the donation of over 4000 meals to date, most of which have been peanut based.
Peanut butter is sticky magic. Found in more than 90% of American households, the nutrient-packed delight offers quality calories, rich in fiber, protein, unsaturated fat, folate, vitamin E, magnesium and resveratrol. (Yes, it does contain some saturated fat, but the devil is in the details. One serving of peanut butter not only contains 3.3 grams of saturated fat, but also a huge 12.3 grams of unsaturated fat. That fat ratio is akin to olive oil, known as a heart booster.) Peanuts are rich in niacin which plays a protective roll in preventing cognitive decline, especially Alzheimer’s disease. Recognizing these fantastic health benefits, 2 Degrees is proud to offer our delicious Chocolate Peanut variety.
2 Degrees Food is a business that faces in 2 directions: towards those who enjoy our snack products and towards hungry children to whom we donate life-saving meals. Peanuts not only play a part in our snack products, but also a major part on our giving side: the Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) meals that we give away are a mineral-fortified, peanut-based food that is highly caloric and can be up to 95% effective at fully rehabilitating a severely malnourished child.
2 Degrees donates RUTF made by both Valid Nutrition in Malawi and Zanmi Agrikol in Haiti. It’s important to us that we support local economies in our meal donations — the RUTF we donate, are made from peanuts produced by local farmers. Check out this video to see how it’s done in Haiti!
What empowers us to donate these critical, peanut-based meals are the people and organizations that purchase 2 Degrees bars. To date, HP has triggered the donation of over 4000 meals. This donation is an outstanding contribution to combatting childhood hunger. Every meal counts. Every bar counts. 2 Degrees would like to recognize HP’s essential involvement in our shared mission to feed the 200,000,000 hungry children in our world. Thanks HP!
So, happy Peanut Butter Day from 2 Degrees. Peanuts are powerful things. They provide essential nutrients that give us the ability to reach incredible heights. Indeed Thomas Jefferson and Jimmy Carter were both peanut farmers! Let’s give the starving children of our world a similarly robust nutritional foundation on which to grow healthy and productive lives. Buy a bar. Give a meal.
We’ll leave you with a photo snapped at HP’s annual wellness event at their Corvallis Oregon campus. 2 Degrees was there in force sharing our healthy product and critical mission. Thanks for having us, HP! We look forward to working together in 2012 to donate 2,000,000 meals to the hungry children in our world.
Together we can do it.
